What You Need to Get Started
To ensure the best learning experience, please make sure you have the following setup before starting your healthcare data engineering journey.
A Good Laptop/PC 💻
- At least 16 GB RAM (8 GB minimum, but 16 GB preferred for handling databases and running multiple apps)
- SSD storage (256GB or more) for speed
- Modern CPU (Intel i5/Ryzen 5 or higher)
Stable High-Speed Internet 🌐
- Minimum 50 Mbps download speed (100+ Mbps recommended)
- Stable Wi-Fi or, even better, Ethernet for reliability
Quiet & Comfortable Workspace 🪑
- Quiet room for focus
- Comfortable chair & desk (since learning and coding takes long hours)
- Proper lighting for video calls
Headset / Microphone & Webcam 🎧📷
- Noise-cancelling headset for clear audio
- External or built-in HD webcam for online classes/meetings
- Good microphone if you plan to record or present
Software Setup ⚙️
- OS: Windows/Mac/Linux (whatever you're comfortable with)
- Tools: VS Code, Python, SQL Server/SQLite, Git, Docker (basic setup)
- Cloud Free Tiers (Azure, AWS, or GCP account for practice)
Important Note
Don't worry if you don't have everything perfect! We'll help you set up the software during the first week. The most important things are a decent computer, reliable internet, and a quiet space to focus and learn.
